The Slow Lane
There’s a phrase you often hear when coaches are trying to get athletes to practice more effectively.
“Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.”
The idea is that graceful, frictionless, coordinated movement is so much more efficient than brute force that it eventually leads to greater speed than rushing and pressing.
This basic idea is true in many realms outside of sports. It’s true for playing a musical instrument. It’s true for practicing medicine in a busy clinic.
How might you apply this idea to your life in general? Where are the places in your life where you seem to be applying a lot of brute force and constant hurry? Those may be places where going slower might be much faster in the end.
